Oliver Cromwell and the civil war

The civil war

What is a civil war?
A civil war is not any ordinary war where two countries fight against each other, it is when people from the same country fight against each other. It is normally about who is going to rule the country (monarchy or the government).
Oliver Cromwell
Oliver Cromwell was an English soldier and a well-known politician. He helped England become a Republic; this is where a country is run by a person such as a president. Cromwell was born on 25th April 1599 in Huntingdon. He studied at Cambridge University then became a Member of Parliament.
The civil war
The civil war began in 1642 between Parliament and Charles I. Cromwell convinced parliament to create an army, even though he lacked military experience. However, they won victory over the king’s forces in Naseby (1645) and this is why the monarchy no longer rules England.
